Strength from prayer

This past Thursday, I completed one of the toughest classes I ever had to take in college. This instructor did not want us to pass! He was difficult for no reason and could care less about what we thought because he was retiring... He felt all MBA students were lazy and expected everything to be handed to them on a silver platter.... His personal vendetta against MBA students were felt by all.... He truly wanted to break us...

How mad I was during the class, I'm grateful to have had an instructor like him. He put the pressure on me... I never studied so much in my life for a course....It was even so to a point where I felt compelled to inform the Dean of our program about  the treatment we were receiving as students... I just couldn't believe how he expected us to do so much work in such a short amount of time. But I did it... I passed the class with a B-.   As I get ready to start my next course this week, I can't help but think about strength from prayer. There will be times in your life when you will face the obstacle head on... You can either defeat it or let it defeat you... And the difference maker will be the strength you obtained from prayer.

I'm too close to my goal to let anything defeat me... And I have too many people in my corner praying that I succeed...

Only four classes to go...

Graduate School-HalfwayMark

I got a break in between classes, and I figured I would drop a blog to give my readers a quick status update. I just hit the halfway mark with graduate school, and I wish I could say that it is all down hill from here. I just finished one of my hardest classes to date (Quantitative Analysis), and getting ready to start Managerial Economics. I only have six classes to go till I get my MBA. It is getting harder to balance school life with work life and personal life. It feels like I am juggling ticking time bombs and sooner than later one of them will explode, and it will be all over. At this point, I am just trying to do my best to maintain, and keep focused. I know the sacrifice that my family and I is making will be all worth it in the end. I am learning a lot though. The more classes I take, the more things make sense. I started this journey of "going back to school" because there was so many questions that I needed answers to. Before I started back for my bachelor's, I felt that I already knew how to start a business. Once I finished with undergrad, I felt I now know how to run a business. Now that I am going for my MBA, I'm learning that this is teaching me how to make tough decisions within a business. Even after I finish these last six classes, I still may not have all of my questions answered, but I'm okay with that. As long as I continue to seek knowledge, I will find it. One of my professors said that when you are hired with an MBA, you are looked upon to make decisions and depending on how things turn out, the wrong decision could potential cost you your job. You are looked upon for answers and you have to be able to provide them. The MBA program is teaching/equipping me with the knowledge needed to find those answers. I think about that everyday while studying, and look at it as a big deal. I want to be the type of leader that either knows the answer or knows exactly how to find the answer.

I am still in the process of figuring out my career path. If you read my blogs before, you know my struggle on figuring out exactly what I want to do. Its frustrating though. It seems like once I choose a career, I always find something in that career that won't work. For an example, just recently I was sure that I wanted to maybe get into consulting, but then I started thinking about how much traveling you will have to do. And from further research I found that the consultants most in demand are the ones that specialize in statistics, accounting, marketing, and technology-which neither one are my strong points. I'm optimistic though. That this 34 year old will figure out his career path in life. I just hope to have it figured out before I graduate next spring. Till next time.

Oh by the way, my eldest daughter turns 4 tomorrow...Wow its crazy how time flies....

What's Up World!!!

Hello People! Just checking in to let you guys know what's going on with "yours truly". Well I just finished up my third graduate class, and everything seems to be going okay. I should actually be reading right now, but my procrastination is like no other!!! Only nine more classes!!! I can't wait to be done. I am learning a lot though. I'm learning how to be more of a leader. I think I was put here to spread my knowledge and inspire. Help others, help others. Well, that is what I want to do. Be what that person needs in order to motivate them to get over that next hump. Anyway, oh my wife is in her 3rd trimester. Baby Alissa will be here very soon. We got her crib up and some clothes the other day. We are about to really start to get everything that we need for her now so that we are not scrambling last minute. Had some car trouble also. Well not too bad, Tire blew, then the spare blew. Got both repaired so everything is all good. I feel really blessed, because it could of been a lot worse. Especially with all the ice and snow that we have on the roads at this time of the year. I'm done with this weather. I am about to really seriously think about getting ready to move out of state. I just can't deal with the cold anymore. I'm thinking North Carolina, or Virginia. Anyway, everything is subject to change. We shall see. Well, that is all I have as of right now. Next month I will be married for 10 years. I am so proud of that milestone. Will speak on that a little bit more later. Peace!

Life Of A Grad Student...

So I started Grad School a few weeks ago and at first I was a little intimidated. The syllabus for my first class had my mouth to the floor. Then I settled down and realized that it wasn't that bad. The only thing I really can do is just take one assignment at a time, then one class at a time. Do my best, and everything will be OK. So far, this little plan of mines have been working. But I don't know if it will work for future classes. Anyway, I can only do what I can only do. I decided to write a list of the top 5 things I have experience or realized thus far from being a Grad Student :

1. I am sick of school. I only have twelve classes to pass but I am counting down the days...

2. All the other students in my cohort have some fancy smanzy job title. (For example, I am senior director vice president of operations that handles 600 accounts on the West Coast and have about 70 people that directly report to me. While I'm like, HI my name is Andre. I got a job. I work really well. Lol)

3. So far, the average length of my papers have been 3-4 pages, and I submit one every week. Not bad. Before I started I was thinking 6-8 page papers.

4. Hardly anyone in the MBA program has a business background. I don't know why I thought it would be more people with bachelors in Business in class with me.

5. People are already trying to hard to kiss up to the instructor. I never been that way, and never will.

I will continue to keep you guys updated... I got a long way to go, but everyone keep saying that it goes fast. We shall see... Happy November by the way, I'm not looking forward to winter at all, but I live in Ohio and I should be used to our annual blizzards that come and go. Sigh.
