I couldn't sleep...
All I could think about was a question that I was asked a long time ago that I couldn't answer.
The question was...
Based on your experience in life thus far, how much do you think you are worth per hour?
I know most people would say a hell of a lot more than what I'm being paid now...Or some would say, well it depends on the job. But let's be serious for a second...
Based on your knowledge, your expertise, your past jobs, your skills, etc. what do you think you are worth? $10/per hour? $15/per hour? Maybe $50/per hour? The reason why this is important is because I think everyone should evaluate their self worth. (Self worth is much more than $ also, but for now I'm just focusing on the career part of it) In today's time, knowledge is like ammunition. I went back to college because I felt like I was running out of bullets. I wasn't where I wanted to be. It doesn't matter how good I sold myself, all people heard was... Blah blah blah... You are a customer service worker. And I'm much more than that. So, It was time to reload and reposition myself. But It doesn't have to be a college environment...(That is the route I chose) It could be you just picking up a book, doing your own research... Educating yourself. I say this to motivate. I hear people all the time, complaining about their pay rate, but haven't picked up a book since high school. You can't expect to be paid like a CEO, with a entry-level mindset. If you feel that you are underpaid, put yourself in a position where your knowledge will better match your self worth.
So that's what I am doing right now... Gaining knowledge, gaining experience. Filling that resume. So that when I have found my dream career, people will see, THIS is what I bring to the table. THIS is why I feel I am worth THIS AMOUNT. THIS is why I have the confidence that anything that I will do will be successful.
So when you are reading this, on your way to work or just getting off... Think about where you are at in life... Are you happy? Do you feel appreciated? Do you feel accomplished? Do you feel... Comfortable? If not, take time to make evaluating your self worth a priority. So that you can be where YOU want to be instead of where someone thinks you should be.
